I think they should, as long as it's encouraged rather than forced. Volunteering teaches young people responsibility and empathy, and it also helps them develop practical skills, like teamwork and communication, which are useful for their future careers. However, if it becomes compulsory, some students might see it as just another task to complete, which would defeat the purpose. So schools could offer a range of options and let students choose something they genuinely care about.

Criterios de corrección

  • Fluency and Coherence: speaks at length without noticeable effort; ideas are linked logically with a range of connectives and discourse markers
  • Lexical Resource: flexible, precise vocabulary, including some less common and idiomatic items; paraphrases when needed
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: a mix of simple and complex structures; most sentences are error-free
  • Pronunciation: easy to understand throughout; uses stress, rhythm and intonation to convey meaning

Explicación

A conditional opinion ('as long as...') followed by benefits, a risk ('if it becomes compulsory...') and a practical suggestion shows the depth of reasoning typical of Band 7+.

I think time is the main obstacle. Most adults have jobs and families, so finding a few regular hours to practise is genuinely hard. There's also a psychological side: children don't mind looking foolish, whereas adults are often embarrassed to be beginners again, so they give up before they've made real progress.

Explicación

Give two different causes (practical and psychological) and contrast adults with children using 'whereas'. A developed answer explains the consequence ('so they give up…').

Examiner: Does tourism always benefit the places that people visit?

Not always. Tourism obviously brings jobs and money, and it can help to preserve traditions and historic buildings. However, when too many visitors arrive, housing becomes unaffordable for local people, because flats are rented to tourists instead, and the city centre can turn into a kind of theme park. So I'd say the benefits depend very much on how it is managed.

  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: a mix of simple and complex structures; most sentences are error-free
  • Pronunciation: easy to understand throughout; uses stress, rhythm and intonation to convey meaning

Explicación

'Always' invites a balanced answer: benefits first, then 'However…' with a cause–effect chain, and a nuanced conclusion ('depend very much on…').
